Kellen Winslow Jr. to the Seattle Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks acquired TE Kellen Winslow Jr. from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for a seventh-round pick in the 2013 draft. The pick can upgrade to a sixth-rounder, based on Winslow's performance.
The Buccaneers were looking to trade Winslow Jr. because new head coach Greg Schiano was upset that the tight end has not been working out with the team this offseason. Winslow Jr. has been working out near his home in San Diego instead. Â
Kellen Winslow Jr. replaces TE John Carlson, who left Seattle in the offseason to join the Minnesota Vikings. Carlson signed a five-year deal for $25m, with $11m guaranteed.
Winslow Jr. has three years and $15.95m left on his current contract, including a base salary of $3.3m. His salary cap number will be $4.8m in 2012.
The 28-year old was the sixth overall pick in the 2004 draft and a Pro Bowl selection as a member of the Cleveland Browns in 2007.
Last season Winslow Jr. caught 75 passes for 763 yards and two touchdowns. He hasn't missed a game in three years despite a history of injuries and several knee surgeries.
Kellen Winslow Jr. will primarily back up TE Zach Miller, though head coach Pete Carroll could be tempted to consider a two-tight end set more often. The Seahawks must have plans for Winslow Jr. because $4.8m seems a lot of money for a backup.
