Mark Sanchez Tim Tebow quarterback controversy gets even hotter

The Mark Sanchez Tim Tebow New York Jets quarterback controversy has been red hot since the Jets traded for Tebow in March but last week it got even hotter.
Several former Jets and current players weighed in on the situation including Jets legend Joe Namath, former Jets punter Steve Weatherford and Darrelle Revis â the Jets Pro Bowl cornerback.
Namath declared himself for Team Sanchez. At a charity event last Tuesday he was quoted by the AP saying "there's no doubt at all" Mark Sanchez is the better quarterback. He added, "Mark is going to get better," and that he saw similarities between himself and Sanchez.
Weatherford, who the Jets choose not to resign after 2010, proved there's no fury like a punter scorned and declared himself for Team Tebow.
"I like Mark -- I think he's a very talented quarterback -- but from my standpoint, I haven't seen a lot of maturation,"said Weatherford, who was Sanchez's teammate in 2009 and 2010 and who currently plays for the reigning Super Bowl champs the New York Giants. Weatherford added "when you're a quarterback and you come in, and you're expected to be the face of the franchise, and you're expected to lead the team. That's a lot to take on as a rookie. But as the years go on, I think you're expected to mature, skill-wise, and also mature as a leader, and to be honest with you, as much as I like the guy, I just haven't seen that."
The most telling comments of all may have came from Revis who said Tebow was a natural leader even in the cafeteria.
"Some people have it and some guys don't," Revis was quoted saying by CBS New York. "I just think the passion, it's the passion within, of him wanting to be a leader, wanting to win. You see it all the time â eating lunch you see it. Walking down the hallway you see it."
Revis added, "he's a born leader. He really is. Very few athletes have the gift that he has. He tries to lead by example all the time and he tries to be positive, which is awesome."
Though Revis went on to say how effective having Sanchez and Tebow on the field at the same time could be, he enthusiastic praise of Tebow seemed to me to be a veiled criticism of Sanchez. Calling Tebow "a born leader" and adding "some people have it and some guys don't," sounds like a dig at Sanchez whose leadership was anonymously criticized by teammates after the Jets disappointing 2011 season.
If the Jets locker room is already favoring Tebow that could put even more pressure on Mark Sanchez who hasn't exactly thrived in pressure situations in the past.
What do you think? Is Revis subtly criticizing Sanchez? Who do you think should be the Jets quarterback next year?
