AFC West News and Notes

Thanks for checking out my news and notes for the AFC West. These are the things in the news about the division during the 3rd weekend of May 2012. I will mention things going on with each team in the AFC West and offer my take on what is going on.
San Diego Chargers News and Notes
San Diego Chargers quarterback Phillip Rivers was put in at 61 on the NFL top 100 players list. Rivers had a bit of a down season in 2011 with too many interceptions (20) and I am sure that played into the low ranking. Le'Ron McClain is chomping at the bit to play for the Chargers. The team has promised to let him carry the ball more than he has in the past.
McClain can be a solid short yardage back and has some experience as a primary ball carrier when playing for the Ravens a few years back. Looking forward to the wide receiver competition for the Chargers this summer.
Denver Broncos News and Notes
Broncos defensive line coach Wayne Nunnely has retired from the coaching staff. Nunnely has been inDenverfor three years and has over 30 years of college and pro coaching experience. Defensive assistant Jay Rogers will replace Nunnely as the defensive line coach.
The Broncos are trying to sign offensive tackle Ryan Clady to a long term contract. Clady looked like a Hall of Famer as a rookie but has been playing worse each season since. Still Clady is better than most tackles and the team does need to lock him up
Kansas City Chiefs News and Notes
Recently Chief's general manager Scott Pioli gave Matt Cassel a vote of confidence. Cassel hasn't had much of that from the team of late and will battle for his job in camp.I think Cassel has been a decent quarterback and deserves to be the starter unless clearly beat out in camp.
With the Chiefs going old school with a ground and pound style offense I thinkCasselwill be a good game manager for the team. I just hope the Chiefs can stay healthy in 2012 as there is depth concern at most positions.
Oakland Raiders News and Notes
Terrelle Pryor apparently contemplated retirement but has changed his mind. Pryor the formerOhioStatequarterback will probably be the third stringer inOaklandbehind Palmer and Leinart.
Linebacker Rolando McClain got a six month jail sentence for assault but his lawyer is now asking that it go to a jury trial instead. Fifth round pick Juron Criner turned some heads in rookie camp with some great catches.

Hell yea
